Restoring Edgar Wood’s lost Middleton Shelters

Edgar Word’s was a notable architect, seen as a proponent of the Arts and Crafts Movement his later work is distinctly modernist in style. We were previously commissioned to carry out a comprehensive rectified photographic survey of many of his surviving works in Middleton. We have now completed a survey and reconstruction of one of Wood’s buildings which no longer survives – his first commission – a drinking fountain and shelter. Timber framed and designed in a quirky Jacobean revival style the building was demolished in 1960.

We were commissioned by RICS Accredited Conservation Building Surveyor Lynda Jubb to provide drawings and a 3D model of the lost shelter using archive sources and photographs. The resulting 3D model was received with enthusiasm by the client and will enable the reconstruction of this little gem.
